The Henry Vilas Zoo participates in a variety of wild animal conservation programs. Our Conservation Education Celebrations, which focus on helping save the wild counterparts of the animals at our zoo, are not only fun but also give you the chance to make a difference in the lives of wild animals.
Join us on Saturday, February 24 from 12:30-3pm for International Polar Bear Day! Join in on the games and activities, and see these amazing animals up close during the enrichment and demonstrations, and learn all about Suka and Berit at the Keeper Chat. Bring your own teddy bear for story time, and learn about what you can do at home to help combat climate change. The Zoo will be doing it’s part by participating in the Thermostat Challenge – lowering the thermostat in some of our spaces by 2 degrees to save energy, so dress warmly and wear your favorite crazy hat! Ten percent of all proceeds from the Glacier Grille and Gift Shop will go directly to Polar Bears International for polar bear conservation.
12:30-3:00pm: Games and activities in the Glacier Grill and Discovery Center 12:30pm: Teddy Bear Storytime (Animal Health Center classroom) 1:00pm: Polar Bear enrichment demo (polar bear yard) 1:45pm: Keeper Chat (near bear training demo area) 2:30pm: Polar Bear Training (bear training demo area)
