You can help wild orangutans by making careful choices when purchasing food and beauty products.

See below for a list of companies who have committed to sourcing the palm oil in their products from sustainably farmed and harvested palm oil, which does not result in further rainforest loss. The threat that palm oil poses to orangutans, sun bears, and other native animals in the region is through loss of their forest home for conversion to oil palm fields.

This means that these companies source palm oil that is not grown in fields that the orangutans' forest home was cleared to make room for. Palm oil is an a surprising amount of products--preserved/pre-packaged food (even milk!) and cleaning and beauty products (if it foams, there is probably palm oil in it).

If you'd like to learn more about companies that have committed to using sustainably harvested palm oil, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has created free apps for you to use while shopping on itunes or Google Play.
